post-chevy obsessiveness

I was so dedicated to finishing the second Chevron scarf that I let some other projects fall by the wayside.  I don't have as many works in progress as some, but there is at least one sweater for Little Sir that I would like to wrap up.  And then there is this, my newest obsessive knit:

Another_start

I started this ages ago, but because of my inability to read the pattern properly, I had to rip and start over (if you are doing a left twist --at least for Trellis-- don't forget to knit in the backs of the loops when knitting two together...just some advice from me to you).  This is a gift for a friend of mine.  I have till the 16th of June to finish it.  If I was a monogamous knitter that would be possible--easy even; but monogamy in crafts has never worked for me...especially with stuff like this lying around:

Koigu

How am I to resist the call of Koigu?  Koigu is so obsession inducing, I can't fight the power.  And this Koigu is so Project Spectrum.  I was tempted to knit simple but fun toe-up socks, but I wonder if I have enough yardage to do these...

And then there is my newest addiction.  Do you remember that "learn to spin" kit a got at MDSW?  Well, I worked through the freebie roving in the bag

Handspun

While it may not be all glamorous and beautiful to you, I am ridiculously giddy and impressed with myself.  Special K was really impressed too (I think he was more impressed with my make-shift lazy Kate--which we are now calling the "Lazy Nova"  which is so extraordinarily appropriate, it's a little sad).

New_addiction

So yes, this spindling thing, in case you didn't know, it's as addicting as knitting. I just ordered a new featherweight spindle from the Goldings (I love them, go order a spindle and give them some of your money so I don't feel compelled to give them all of mine) to try spinning some lace weight that I will try and knit a shawl from for the Spun Stitches KAL, I figured it would be a nice summer challenge for myself; because as lazy as I am, I still like a challenge.

It's a little scary how one obsession ends and another or others begin.  Scary; but fun.  What about you, obsess much?

so, let me tell you a little something about pomatomus: they are gorgeous. they are amazing. they are the kind of knitting that involves complete comcentration and 100% sobriety. if you're me they do, anyway. i am a fairly monogamous knitter and i needed to not only have something else on the needles to work on when company was about, but i took a break between socks and made both a hat and a sweater. they're totally worth it, but be forewarned...

Ooh, that Koigu is one of my favorite colorways -- perfect for spring, and definitely enough for Pomatomus. And I need to learn drop spindling!

Trellis is looking very good!

Great job on the spinning! I'm avoiding learning to spin, and I'm not too pulled toward it yet. I have too much still to learn about knitting. And I still do bead and do wire work. Now if I could only get myself to finish a counted cross stitch picture I started 2 years ago...

Have a great weekend, Nova!

Wow, Nova, great job on the spinning! I'm very impressed! And it's been far too long since I saw a pic of Little Sir in a new handknit.

Okay.. I promise I'm not trying to tempt you - see? I put in the Sockapalooza IV blog as the URL, so hopefully TypePad won't out me this time!

But I just wanted to say congrats on the spinning! It looks gorgeous. That green is absolutely delicious! What is it?

(I've not been brave enough yet to try to knit something with any of my homespun, but I think I might be getting there soon!)

I've always said that life is just a series of obsessions. Right now, I'm in a Battlestar Galactica obsession. Sometimes it's a particular knitting project. Other times, podcasts. It bounces around--but each time, it makes life worth living!

So did you buy that spinning kit and teach yourself from that and produce such excellent yarn? wow!

You've been tagged-- I hope you don't mind too much :) You can read the details on my blog.

Will the Koigu be enough? That's what I asked anxiously for my last few rounds of Pomatomus... luckily I suppose I have short feet and it was enough! I now have Pomatomus that fit perfectly and I love them so much I haven't even washed them or wrote about them on my blog yet... BUT! That toe was an anxious time. There is very, very, VERY little Koigu left. Much as I'd love to make another pair with Koigu, I don't think I could stand that "excitement" again...

So! That was your fair warning, I guess. ;) Good luck!

i love that koigu colorway! i'm not usually one who goes for yellows, but something about that particular combo is calling to me most irresistibly. and yes, i do obsess...right now, it's simply all things yarn and knitting! (my obsessions are often fairly broad in nature...) anyway, can't wait to see what that koigu turns into!

I got a spindle about a year ago and subscribed to Spin Off - got every spinning book out of the whole regional library system - ordered roving from all over the place and proceeded to learn to spin. I QUICKLY saw that it was going to become another obsession/ addiction and was going to take A LOT of time....So I put everything away and decided to wait for the kids to grow up - life to slow down...something to look forward to in my future!!
Looks like you have already mastered it!!!

I'm all about the obsessions. I've watched four season of the Gilmore Girls in one month. And I've been obsessed with David Bowie since I was 11.

Your spinning is inspirational!

Wow, you didn't waste any time with the spinning! How pretty!

and I love the yellow Koigu!

Obsess much? Heck YEAH. I may look like I am listening to the people who are talking to me, but the fact is my mind is always working on whatever obsession is currently occupying me - a particular yarn, a particular fabric, a particular pattern.

But monogamy? You're totally right. It's so not for me (I mean, when it comes to crafts, *ahem*.) I have a deadline, too, for a gift for a friend (May 29). It would be a piece of cake if I wasn't also trying to knit a summer shawl and sewing forty billion summer tops and bottoms.

Oh yeah, and the spinning? Gorgeous.

That is the sunniest Koigu EVER!

OOOH - your spinning is amazing!!!! That green is so pretty!

Trellis is so cute, but I found it a bit more fuddly than I like my baby knits to be.

You already know how I feel about Koigu! It works for everything and every color too! You know I was looking at Goldings 2 weeks ago then I go and order the Kromski! As much touble as I am having I wonder if I should have started with a spindle! Which Golding did you settle on?

Koooiiiiggggguuuuuu, kkkoooiiiiiggguuuuuu! You can not resist me, Nova! Kniiiittt with me! Knniiiiit with me!
