diy challenge #1
Make the sock puppet of your dreams. Last week when I picked up Little Sir, I received a note with a sock with the assignment of making the sock puppet of our dreams. Right.
I don't dream of sock puppets (especially when I turn into a one woman manufacturing factory at this time of the year); but, if I did, I think one of them might look like this zebra that I whipped up (it all started with the black wool as inspiration, wool as horse hair!).
I am a fan of string and needles in all weights and types; but, I have to say, some crafts warrant dictate the use of a hot glue gun (there was no way I would have time to sew the stripes and ears on...just wasn't going to happen). Having never used a hot glue gun before, I now have a fervor for using it. Should you have anything that needs to be hot-glued, please send it my way.
And because it's that time of year, we pulled out the celebratory props over the weekend. You know, to get the jolly going.

How excited does he look! Too cute! The zebra came out great - I love his little ears!

When I learned my mother-in-law had a glue gun, I made sure that she knew that I DID NOT have a glue gun. It wasn't long before that glue gun became mine. I dislike bringing it out when Jerry (who is 5) is home, because then he will want to use it, and it seriously takes away from mommy's quality time with the glue gun.
In short: I completely understand. :)

I got a hot glue gun when I made Mo's rooster costume for Halloween, and it is now my favorite craft tool of all time. How did I live this long without a hot glue gun? It completes me. (Well, not really, but still.)

Ooooh, look at that sweet, little face! Can you please put him on a plane to Australia? It's summer here now... He'll love the beaches in Sydney... I'll knit him a sock puppet... :)

I have a friend who refers to his sister as 'Hot Glue Gun' because of her predilection for making X-mas presents for everyone with the device of the same name;)

The glue gun is a woman's best friend. I've made entire Cub Scout flags using nothing but scissors and a glue gun. I've even glued a patch to a shirt using a glue gun (bad idea btw). That zebra puppet is too cute! Nice job.

That is a pretty cute sock puppet. And I understand your love of the hot glue gun. About an hour and a half before my wedding I was hot-gluing beads onto barrettes trying to create the perfect hair accent -- it was completely insane. Ever since then I've felt very closely connected with my glue gun.
Sorry, don't you love it when people talk all about themselves in the comments?
