what's doing? who's winning?

Blocking

I have been a little absent around these parts; but, I have been up to quite a bit.  I weaved in the ends of the Sienna sweater, it's blocking.  It's been blocking for 3 days.  It should be dry tonight and I can finally get around to giving it the button treatment (and having a finished knit, everyone together now, "it's about time.").

Desk

I went to a conference for academic archivists over the weekend.  Pretty local.  Even though UConn is only 50 minutes away from me, I got lost and it took 2 hours to get home on Saturday.  There was very little knittng time at the conference, so while I didn't get any knitting done, I got a cute little desk for Little Sir for $2.00 while I aimlessly drove circles around various hinterland locales of Connecticut.  Even trade.

Fiberlicious

I even had some fiberlicious fun...

Quilt

And I did some quilt planning, inspired by the blank canvas that is Little Sir's new toddler bed (the transition of which is getting better, by the way).

Speaking of blank canvas, I have contest winners...  Using a random number generator (I love these things, no cutting of paper slips!), the comments of Kirsten and Fricklet's mom were selected.  I will get in touch with you shortly for some coordination.  Thank you all for your loser knit stories, it makes me feel just a little bit better about my sweater...which, I am sure, will be a loser-knit.

And lest you think there is no knitting happening around these parts...

It is Socktober, afterall.

So, what's doing with you?

fiberlicious : plums

Plums3

So there I was in the grocery store, looking at tons of produce and there in the middle of it all, a new shipment of red plums (there were black plums too, but it was all about the red).  The plums made me think of...yarn in the stash.

Plums2

This Tess Supersock that I got at MDSW doesn't have a colorway attached to it; I am just going to call it "plum."

Plums1

The plums were good on their own; but, I bought so many, I had to be creative.

Upside_down_plumcake

So I made a cake.  It's from an old issue of Everyday Food (but I think you can find it online-Plum Upside-down Cake.  Thanks, Martha.

And thanks to all of you for your comments on my new Flower Basket Shawl, it's been a nice addition to my wardrobe (which, really, needs all the help it can get).

Also, if you want to see some hedonistic yarn love, go here.  Who hasn't wanted to roll around in yarn?

Happy weekend everyone!

fiberlicious: clementines

  Fiberlicious_clementines3

Knitting with the orange Trekking made me hungry for clementines.  I have no idea why...

Fiberlicious_clementines2

It's not a perfect match; but, it's close enough.

Have a good weekend of knitting, eating, and fun!

fiberlicious friday :: apple pie

Apple_pie

Claudia's Handpainted in Butter Pecan.  I think it's more like apple pie (a la mode).  Made from scratch.  Recipe from Joy of Cooking (pate sucree crust, apple pie recipe I).  Yum.

Still taking suggestions for the wee blogiversary contest, keep those suggestions rolling in!

Have a great weekend everyone!

fiberlicious friday, strawberry ice cream

I was going to do an FO post, but then I "found" this ball of yarn in my stash last night and it reminded me of a little "photo shoot" that I did with Little Sir about a month ago (I didn't love the pictures so I never posted them, but whatever).  The memory made me smile, so I thought I'd share it.

Icecream

When I bought the yarn, it made me think of strawberry ice cream (obviously, it would have had to been a food thing...it is pink, afterall).  I bought it in Hawaii during my vacation.  It is a Japanese yarn, the yarn shop owner and I "think" it's wool.  I thought it was scrumptious.  Obviously so did Little Sir (I am sure the cone helped in the convincing as well).

And then he realized it was not ice cream.  It was in fact, "just a ball of yarn."

Noticecream

Well, I think it's scrumptious.
