tomten jacket
Pattern: by Elizabeth Zimmermann. I used The Opinionated Knitter, but I think you can probably find the pattern in Knitting Without Tears as well.
Yarn: Beaverslide Dry Goods McTaggart Tweed. Less than one skein of each: Autumn Licorice, Big Sky Heather, Oatstraw, Prairie Sandreed, Arrowleaf Balsamroot.
Needles: US 7
I striped this thing like nobody's business, which is why it took so long to finish (you know, I hate weaving in the ends). The jacket is a conglomeration of leftovers from other projects (meathead hats, and my Sienna sweater). I liked the autumn palette of the colors, and it's a really soft sweater.
Knitting on the 7's produced a thicker fabric, I think the label said something about getting 4st/inch on 9s, but I wanted it to be more jacket-y. I was hoping to make it a little bigger so he could wear it next fall and winter; but, I think it will see action for a couple of years, which is fine too.
I will probably knit this again one day, when I do, I will use self-striping yarn.
